St. Francis College of Navunibitu has emerged as the early leader at the Coca‑Cola Games Ra Zone athletics meet, finishing day one with a commanding haul of 10 gold, six silver and eight bronze medals. The Ra Sports Ground hosts the two‑day zone competition, which is set to conclude today.
Rakiraki Public High School sits in second on the standings after day one with seven gold, three silver and seven bronze medals, while Penang Sangam High School is third with four gold, nine silver and five bronze. By total medals, St. Francis leads with 24, Penang Sangam has 18 and Rakiraki 17 — but the traditional ranking by gold medals keeps Rakiraki ahead of Penang in the table.
St. Francis’s strong performance on the opening day gives the Navunibitu school a useful cushion, leading by three gold medals over Rakiraki. The Ra Zone meet is one of several regional competitions staged across Fiji as part of the annual Coca‑Cola Games, the country’s premier secondary schools athletics carnival. Zone results typically shape which athletes and schools progress to the national finals in the main Coca‑Cola Games programme.
With the competition ending today, the medal standings could still shift as finals in sprint, middle‑distance and field events are decided. Penang Sangam’s depth is notable — its nine silver medals indicate frequent podium finishes even if fewer wins have been secured so far — while Rakiraki’s tally shows it remains within striking distance if its athletes convert second and third places into golds on the final day.
Organisers will compile and confirm the final Ra Zone medal table once the last events are complete at the Ra Sports Ground. Schools to watch as the meet concludes are St. Francis College, Rakiraki Public High School and Penang Sangam High School, all of which will be looking to improve their positions and bolster chances of representation at the national stage.
