Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) has kicked off its annual Christmas gift and stationery drive aimed at bringing joy to children of the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) in collaboration with Pacific Energy. Entering its third year, this initiative seeks to alleviate the hardships faced by CPR families, who diligently work to maintain a clean and sustainable environment by collecting recyclables, often amidst difficult conditions and limited resources.
According to Amitesh Deo, the founder of the foundation, Christmas can often be a time of disappointment for these children, as many parents struggle to provide basic necessities while working at dumpsites and public spaces. “We should not be this broken as a community that some of our children are left without gifts during Christmas,” Mr. Deo expressed.
Since its inception in 2022, the Christmas drive has positively impacted over 600 children across Fiji, with Mr. Deo emphasizing its importance in conveying to these kids that they are seen, valued, and loved. Given that many of these families prioritize essentials like food, there is often little left for toys or school supplies. The initiative aims to relieve this burden, ensuring parents don’t have to rely on discarded items to bring joy to their children.
The foundation is calling on businesses, organizations, and individuals to embrace the Christmas spirit by donating gifts and essential stationery items. Contributions can be dropped off at the Malhana Cloud Kitchen Restaurant on Koronivia Road or placed in specially marked boxes at selected Pacific Energy Service Stations.
This drive not only strives to uplift families but also aims to bring dignity to the work of recyclers, reinforcing the belief that every child deserves a special gift during the festive season.
In the face of adversity, the Pacific Recycling Foundation’s efforts highlight the power of community and generosity, reminding us that even small contributions can make a considerable difference in the lives of those in need.
