Carpenters Fiji Ltd recently hosted a heartwarming Christmas gathering for children battling cancer and those from local orphanages in Suva, reinforcing its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Pawan Sharma, the general manager of Global Business Improvement, emphasized that this event has become a cherished year-end tradition for the company.
Sharma remarked, “Every year, we commemorate Christmas with orphanages and the Fiji Cancer Society. Ever since we started MHCC, we’ve done that every year.” He highlighted the importance of celebrating the season with those in need, ensuring they are remembered and included in the festivities.
The celebration saw approximately 125 children from Dilkusha Home, WOWS Kids Fiji, and the Happy Home Trust, along with their families, enjoying a day filled with entertainment, ice cream, sweets, cakes, gifts, and a delightful lunch. The lunch was provided graciously by food court sponsors that include notable names like Shiva’s Restaurant and Joji’s.
One attendee, Ema Nasome, a mother of three who attended with her son Sakiusa Vakalala, expressed her gratitude for the event. Sakiusa, a member of the WOWS Kids group, has faced health challenges since birth, having suffered from kidney failure. Nasome shared, “This is the first time for us to attend. It really makes a big difference to their lives.”
