The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) has spread festive cheer this holiday season by distributing Christmas gifts to approximately 600 children involved with the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) throughout Fiji. The generous initiative took place this week in various locations, including Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, and Labasa.
The event was filled with joy as the children’s laughter resonated, reflecting the true spirit of Christmas. PRF’s founder, Amitesh Deo, noted that this Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive serves as a poignant reminder to adults of the innocence and joy of childhood. He emphasized that the initiative aims to rekindle the fundamental essence of Christmas, which is about spreading happiness, regardless of external circumstances.
Deo expressed how the excitement and smiles of the children reaffirm the purpose of this initiative—to make their Christmas experiences as magical as possible. Launched in 2022, the drive is not just about providing gifts but also about instilling hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging among children and families often overlooked in society.
He highlighted the vital role that CPR plays in Fiji’s recycling ecosystem, collecting recyclable materials in tough conditions from dumpsites and public spaces. Many families of these children live in impoverished communities where basic necessities often take precedence over gifts or educational supplies. This initiative alleviates this burden, ensuring that every child, irrespective of their background, can receive a Christmas gift.
The ambition of this year’s drive is to provide not only toys but also essential school supplies to prepare the children for the upcoming academic year. Deo reiterated the importance of restoring dignity and recognition to these families, who contribute significantly to the community’s recycling efforts.
PRF expressed heartfelt gratitude to the many sponsors and organizations that supported this initiative, such as Pacific Energy, Vinod Patel & Company Ltd, and Digicel Pacific, among others. This year’s drive also marked a significant milestone, reaching Labasa for the first time, thereby extending its positive influence across the country.
This initiative serves as a beautiful reminder of the impact of community support and generosity, especially during the festive season. By providing children with gifts and essential supplies, not only does it bring joy, but it also reinforces the idea that everyone deserves compassion and kindness, especially during times of need.
Overall, the work done by PRF and its partners showcases the power of community in elevating lives and creating joy, especially during Christmas—an essential time for giving and reflection.
