The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) brought the holiday spirit to life this week as approximately 600 children from the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) across Fiji received Christmas gifts during the foundation’s Annual Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive. Locations such as Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, and Labasa were among the areas where children were delighted with these festive surprises.
The event filled the air with laughter and joy, capturing the true essence of the holiday season. Amitesh Deo, the founder of PRF, emphasized that this initiative serves as a reminder to adults about the joys of childhood, where happiness can be found in small moments and miracles can arise even in difficult times. He highlighted the significance of Christmas as a time for spreading joy and happiness, irrespective of the circumstances around us.
Deo noted that the drive, initiated in 2022, is not only about distributing gifts but also about providing hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging to children from families often overlooked by society. CPR plays a vital role in Fiji’s recycling efforts, collecting recyclables from various locations under tough conditions, yet often these families struggle to meet basic needs like food and shelter, which overshadow the desire for toys or school supplies.
This year’s goal was to ensure that the children of CPR received not only toys but also essential school stationery, preparing them for the upcoming school year. “It’s about restoring dignity to these families,” Deo stressed, urging society to recognize and support these vital contributors to the recycling ecosystem.
PRF expressed heartfelt gratitude to its generous partners and individuals who supported the drive, highlighting the collaboration with various organizations and businesses. Notably, the Christmas Gift & Stationery Drive reached Labasa for the first time this year, thereby expanding its positive impact across Fiji.
This story exemplifies the true spirit of giving during the holiday season, showing how community efforts can bring hope and joy to those in need. It serves as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can create significant positive changes in the lives of others.
