The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) spread holiday cheer across Fiji this week, distributing Christmas gifts to approximately 600 children involved with the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) initiative. This year’s Annual Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive took place in various locations, including Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, and Labasa, bringing smiles and joy to the young recipients.
The happiness on the children’s faces embodied the true spirit of Christmas, as they celebrated with laughter and excitement. PRF Founder Amitesh Deo highlighted that this initiative serves as a reminder of the simple joys of childhood, the boundless nature of imagination, and the power of hope, especially during difficult times. He emphasized that the drive aims to spread joy and happiness regardless of external circumstances.
Deo noted that the Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive, launched in 2022, is about more than just delivering gifts—it’s about providing hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging to vulnerable children and families often overlooked in society. CPR plays a vital role in Fiji’s recycling efforts by collecting recyclables from various locales, contributing significantly to sustainable waste management under challenging conditions.
Many of the children come from communities struggling with poverty, where basic needs like food and shelter take precedence over toys or supplies. The initiative alleviates some of that burden, ensuring every child, regardless of their background, receives a Christmas gift. This year, the drive aims to not only provide toys but also essential school stationery, preparing the children for the upcoming school year.
Deo expressed the importance of recognizing the contributions of these families to the recycling efforts, stressing that providing gifts goes beyond material items—it’s about restoring dignity and ensuring children feel valued.
PRF also extended its gratitude to numerous partners and supporters of the initiative, including local businesses and community organizations, whose contributions have been instrumental in bringing joy to those most in need. Notably, this year’s drive marked a milestone as it expanded to Labasa for the first time, broadening its impact across Fiji.
This inspiring initiative underscores the importance of community support and the spirit of giving, reminding us all of the joy that can be shared during the festive season.
The initiative not only brings festive cheer but also fosters a sense of community support and recognition for those who often go unnoticed. It highlights the importance of giving back, especially during the holiday season, and serves as a reminder of the impact that collective kindness can have on individuals and families in need.
