Yesterday, Carpenters Fiji Ltd hosted a heartwarming Christmas celebration for children battling cancer and those from orphanages in and around Suva, embodying its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This annual event has become a cherished tradition for the company, according to Pawan Sharma, the general manager of Global Business Improvement.
Every year, the company strives to bring joy to youth in need during the holiday season, collaborating with the Fiji Cancer Society and various orphanages. “The purpose of this is to celebrate with all of society and also those who are less fortunate,” Sharma remarked, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity during the festive period.
Approximately 125 children and their families, representing organizations such as Dilkusha Home, WOWS Kids Fiji, and the Happy Home Trust, enjoyed a day filled with entertainment, ice cream, sweets, cakes, and a festive lunch. This lunch was made possible through the generous contributions of the company’s food court tenants, including well-known local sponsors like Shiva’s Restaurant and Sri Lankan Restaurant.
Among the attendees, a grateful mother of three, Ema Nasome, expressed her appreciation for the event. Her six-year-old son, Sakiusa Vakalala, who has faced kidney failure since infancy and is part of the WOWS Kids group, attended for the first time. Nasome remarked, “It really makes a big difference to their lives,” highlighting the positive impact such gatherings have on families navigating difficult circumstances.
This initiative not only spreads holiday cheer but also serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and compassion during challenging times. It reinforces the idea that acts of kindness, no matter the size, can profoundly touch hearts and foster a sense of belonging and hope among those who need it most.
In summary, Carpenters Fiji Ltd’s Christmas event exemplifies the power of community and the spirit of giving, making a significant difference in the lives of children facing adversity.
