The Suva Netball Association celebrated a significant gesture of goodwill as NewWorld IGA Fiji stepped forward to support Fiji’s representatives to the Netball Youth World Cup in Gibraltar. The supermarket chain handed over hygiene sports packs to the six selected players at their Damodar City branch, marking a pivotal moment in the team’s preparation for their upcoming international challenge.

Present at the ceremony were the players, officials from the Suva Netball Association, and representatives from NewWorld IGA Fiji, including Anthony Rajend and Maawiyaa Begum. Suva Netball president Alumeci Sachs expressed gratitude towards NewWorld for their steadfast support over the years. Their sponsorship is viewed as a valuable contribution towards the players’ preparation as they get ready to represent Fiji at the global stage.

The selected players from Suva Netball include Akisi Bolakoro, Anatolia Nuku, Susana Rasaubale, Mereoni Taqiri, Lydia Tavesivesi, and Adi Varanisese Vula, who are members of various clubs such as Grasshoppers, Lomaiviti, and Tagimoucia, affiliated with Suva Netball. President Sachs commended both the players and their families, acknowledging the role of devoted parenting and the girls’ determination to shine on the court.

Following the handover, players and executives gathered for a communal lunch where they received words of encouragement from the association’s leaders. The significance of their role as national representatives was emphasized, motivating them to embody Fiji’s spirit on the world stage. In a heartfelt reminder, the association treasurer, Georgina Lasaqa, also stressed the importance of proudly representing their country.

In addition to the hygiene packs, each player received financial assistance from funds raised during a soli drive organized by the association, underscoring the community’s collective effort to support their journey to the Netball Youth World Cup.

The event marks a critical step in Fiji’s preparation for the Netball Youth World Cup, which runs from September 19th to 28th. The initiative reinforces the essential support required not only from sponsors like NewWorld but also from the community, acknowledging the crucial role such backing plays in bolstering the athletes’ morale and performance.

This occasion not only highlights the preparations of these young athletes but also casts a positive light on the collaborative efforts that propel sports development in Fiji. The ongoing support from both sponsors and the community strengthens the resolve of these players, promising a bright, inspiring future for Fijian netball on the international stage.
