Police have reiterated that splashing water on moving vehicles is illegal, following concerns raised by several motorists since the New Year. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted the issue after a video circulated on social media, showing a bus driver being a recent target of this dangerous behavior.
ACPO Driu warned that such actions pose serious risks, potentially leading to accidents that could cause injuries or fatalities. He urged the public to celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water on moving vehicles. Violators may face charges under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or for negligent acts under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009.
Importantly, Driu pointed out that the severity of the charges can escalate to murder, depending on the injuries inflicted on victims. He also emphasized the need for parents to educate their children about the serious consequences of these actions, as young ones may not fully comprehend the risks involved.
This reminder serves as a crucial call for awareness and responsibility, highlighting the importance of keeping celebrations safe for everyone involved. By fostering a culture of safety, the community can enjoy festivities without compromising the well-being of others.
