Police are urging parents and the public to inform children that splashing water on moving vehicles is illegal. This appeal follows reports from motorists expressing concerns about the behavior since the New Year.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, noted that a recent video circulated on social media shows a bus driver becoming a victim of this reckless act. He emphasized the potential dangers, stating, “Such actions can cause accidents, which can lead to injuries or death. Please celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water on moving vehicles.”
According to ACPO Driu, individuals involved in splashing water on vehicles may be subject to investigation under the Minor Offences Act of 1971 or the Crimes Act of 2009, particularly under sections pertaining to negligent acts. He cautioned that if such actions result in severe injuries, the offense could escalate to more serious charges, including murder.
Driu highlighted that many children may not fully understand the consequences of their actions, making it essential for parents to educate them. He also encouraged adults in the community to guide children to refrain from such dangerous behavior.
“Our police officers will continue to monitor these incidents. Let’s work together to ensure everyone’s safety,” he added.
This article serves as an important reminder of the role that community vigilance plays in keeping our roads safe. Encouraging responsible behavior not only protects individuals but also fosters a culture of care within communities. By addressing these issues proactively, we can work towards safer celebrations and public spaces for everyone.
