Law enforcement authorities are urging parents and the community to educate their children about the dangers and legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles. This warning follows complaints from multiple motorists since the start of the New Year regarding such behavior.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted the issue after a video surfaced on social media showing a bus driver being affected by this reckless act. He emphasized that actions like these can result in serious accidents, potentially leading to injuries or even fatalities. “Please celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water on moving vehicles,” urged ACPO Driu.
Under the law, individuals engaging in this behavior could face investigations under the Minor Offences Act of 1971 or the Crimes Act of 2009, with the possibility of charges escalating to manslaughter or murder depending on the severity of any resultant injuries.
ACPO Driu stressed that children often do not understand the serious consequences that can arise from their actions, and it’s crucial for parents to communicate these risks. He also encouraged community members to guide children away from such dangerous antics.
The police will be actively monitoring incidents of this nature and call upon everyone to contribute to community safety. Together, we can create a safer environment where the joy of celebrations does not come at the expense of public safety.
This proactive approach not only highlights the importance of safeguarding lives but also fosters a stronger community bond as everyone plays a role in ensuring safety. By educating young ones about responsible behavior, we can promote a culture of care and vigilance.
