Police authorities have once again emphasized the legal ramifications of splashing water on moving vehicles. This warning comes in response to increasing concerns from motorists since the start of the New Year. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted a recent incident where a bus driver was affected, as captured in a social media video.
ACPO Driu explained, “Such actions can result in accidents, potentially leading to serious injuries or fatalities. We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and refrain from splashing water on vehicles.” Those engaging in this behavior may be prosecuted under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or for Negligent Acts Causing Harm under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009. Serious cases could even escalate to charges of Murder, depending on the severity of injuries inflicted on victims.
Furthermore, he pointed out that children might not fully understand the consequences of their actions, highlighting the importance of parental guidance in educating them about safety and legalities during celebrations.
It’s crucial to remember that while celebrations and festivities are enjoyable, public safety must remain a top priority. By promoting responsible behavior and ensuring that everyone is well-informed, communities can enjoy their traditions while minimizing the risk of accidents.
