Spiritual Strength: How the Flying Fijians Find Power Beyond the Field

Temo Mayanavanua, a second-rower for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians, believes that the team’s strength lies in their spiritual connection rather than solely in their physical training. He emphasized the importance of spiritual visits, stating, “In Fiji, there are three pillars that define a Fijian: his relationship to the Vanua, his family, and his faith.”

As the team gears up for their Pacific Nations Cup match against Samoa, Mayanavanua remarked that spirituality serves as a guiding force and is not merely a routine. He highlighted, “One message that really captured my attention was what we value most: our relationship with God, which we carry on the field and off it.”

The Flying Fijians are set to face Manu Samoa this Friday at 6 p.m.
