Spate of Weekend Accidents Blamed on Fatigue and Pedestrian Errors

A series of serious accidents over the weekend have been linked to driver fatigue and pedestrian negligence.

On Saturday night in Waidalice, Korovou, a vehicle carrying five individuals plunged off the Wailau Bridge due to driver fatigue. The incident, which occurred before 9 pm, allegedly happened when the driver fell asleep. Three victims were transferred to the Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital where they remain hospitalized. The driver and another passenger were treated and discharged.

Another serious incident took place along Ratu Mara Road, where a 27-year-old man was admitted to the CWM Hospital after being hit by a vehicle driven by a 41-year-old man. The accident reportedly happened because the pedestrian suddenly crossed the road.

In another accident on Sunday, a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man near Nasole veered into the opposite lane and collided with a vehicle driven by a 53-year-old woman. The injured victim was first taken to the Valelevu Health Centre before being transferred to the CWM Hospital.

Additionally, in the Southern Division near Tamavua Village, a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old man crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a bus, subsequently involving a third vehicle driven by a 37-year-old man. The 47-year-old driver is currently admitted at the CWM Hospital.

This morning, Nausori Police responded to a serious accident near Dilkusha Road. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Nausori Health Centre for treatment.

Both drivers and pedestrians are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to road safety measures, as neglect can lead to serious accidents.
