The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, announced that there are still openings for teams to register ahead of the final deadline tomorrow. Currently, 12 teams have paid their fees for the Tier One category, but Finau expressed interest in reaching a total of 16 teams. If the number doesn’t reach that by the end of the week, they will finalize at 12.
In Tier Two, there are already 16 teams registered, while Tier Three, which is designated for women’s teams, has six confirmed participants, with hopes of reaching eight. Similarly, the Under-19 category, or Tier Four, has eight confirmed teams, but they, too, require a total of 16 to proceed.
The registration process supports the tournament’s mission to fund the completion of the Nataleira Methodist Church, which was partially damaged during Cyclone Winston and completely destroyed by Cyclone Harold. They have set a fundraising goal of $30,000 from this event.
The admission prices for attendees are set at $2 for children under 12 and $5 for adults on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the prices will increase slightly to $7 for adults while maintaining the $2 fee for children.
This tournament represents a great opportunity not only for community engagement through sports but also plays a crucial role in aiding the recovery and reconstruction of vital community infrastructure impacted by natural disasters.
As the registration deadline approaches, there is a sense of urgency, but also hope that the event will culminate in a successful turnout that will benefit the community immensely.
