Sophia Morgan, a 21-year-old sailor, is all set to represent Fiji at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, marking her second consecutive appearance in the international event. She expressed her joy and gratitude at a farewell service organized at the Calvary Temple in Suva, speaking of her qualifying for the Olympics twice.
Morgan says, “It’s a blessing to not only be able to vie for the Olympics for the second consecutive year, but also to see my hard work and sacrifices bear fruits.” She credits her family and coaches for their unwavering support in her journey.
Morgan bagged the qualification for the 2024 Olympics through her commendable performance at the Sail Sydney Olympic Qualifying regatta in December the previous year. She aims to surpass her performance from the Tokyo Olympics 2020, where she had finished eighth and secured her slot for the Paris Olympics.
Last year, the young sailor also bagged two silver medals at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, representing Team Fiji. As for her intentions for the Paris Olympics, she hopes to improve upon her previous record and is eagerly anticipating the chance to compete again.
