The Solomon Islands Government has reaffirmed its unwavering opposition to the commercialization of citizenship, emphasizing that the nation is “not for sale.” This announcement follows the circulation of unauthorized advertisements falsely stating that a Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program has been established in the country.

The Chief of Staff and Head of Policy, McFaddean Aoraunisaka, issued a statement from the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT), clarifying that while the government acknowledges the economic potential of a responsibly managed CBI program, it will not compromise the sovereignty, dignity, or identity of the Solomon Islands. “Citizenship is a sacred bond between an individual and our nation,” said Aoraunisaka, emphasizing that it should never be commercialized in a manner that undermines national pride.

The GNUT indicated that any prospective CBI program is still in its developmental stages, and the government is studying global experiences, particularly learning from the successes and challenges faced by the Republic of Vanuatu. The aim is to ensure that any future initiatives would be transparent, secure, and aligned with the country’s Constitution and national interests.

Despite these developments, the government has observed attempts by foreign agencies to misrepresent the status of a CBI program, making misleading claims that one is already operational. Aoraunisaka firmly stated that until an official launch occurs through appropriate legal channels, there is no valid means to acquire citizenship through investment in the Solomon Islands.

Additionally, concerns regarding CBI programs on an international level were raised, with criticisms from Western nations and regional organizations like the European Union. Aoraunisaka argued that these critiques often disregard the development objectives of emerging economies like the Solomon Islands.

It is also essential to consider the broader international context. Changes under the previous U.S. administration, particularly travel bans related to countries with CBI policies, are being reviewed by the Solomon Islands Government as they evaluate their long-term interests.

The GNUT took a firm stance against any external influences attempting to shape a potential CBI program, asserting that any future collaborations would adhere strictly to the terms of the Solomon Islands and maintain full national control. Aoraunisaka ensured that partnerships would be transparent and carefully regulated.

The government cautions the public to ignore unauthorized solicitations or representations regarding the CBI program and encourages vigilance against fraudulent activities tied to these misleading claims.

This proactive approach signals a commitment from the Solomon Islands to protect its sovereignty while considering development opportunities that align with its national values. By ensuring that citizenship is respected and safeguarded, the government actively aims to maintain the integrity and identity of the country moving forward.
