The Solomon Islands is set to participate with two teams in the upcoming Melanesian Spearhead Group Prime Minister’s Cup, scheduled to take place in Honiara from December 9 to 12. The confirmation came during the tournament’s official draw held last weekend at the National Stadium.
This year’s competition will see the participation of teams from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, in addition to the hosts, the Solomon Islands. The Solomon Islands will showcase both their senior national team and an Under-23 side, both of which have been placed in Group A, alongside Papua New Guinea. Group B consists of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Vanuatu.
The tournament kicks off on December 9, with the Solomon Islands’ teams set to face each other in the opening match of Group A at Lawson Tama Stadium. On the same day, Vanuatu and New Caledonia will compete in the first match of Group B. Matches will also be conducted at the newly built National Stadium in Honiara, where the Solomon Islands will strive to defend their title.
The participation of two teams signifies a strong commitment to football development in the Solomon Islands, providing valuable experience for players at different levels of their careers.
