The Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Jeremiah Manele, has announced that two ministers recently removed from their positions will be offered roles on various cabinet sub-committees. This follows a cabinet reshuffle that saw the reinstatement of Rollen Seleso as Provincial Government Minister; Seleso had previously withdrawn support from Manele during a significant ministerial walkout last year.

Manele justified the dismissal of John Tuhaika, who served as the Minister for Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs, and Polycarp Paea, who held the Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology portfolio. He explained that the changes were part of a strategic cabinet realignment aimed at reflecting coalition commitments and ensuring effective implementation of the government’s budget.

According to Manele, the reshuffle aims to promote fair and balanced representation within the coalition government. He reassured the public that the government remains stable despite these changes and emphasized that Tuhaika and Paea would still play a vital role in the government caucus, contributing to policy making. Manele expressed his intention to assign them as chairs of several cabinet sub-committees, allowing them to continue actively participating in governance.

This cabinet adjustment underscores the government’s commitment to its policy objectives and national priorities while fostering an inclusive environment for all coalition members. Manele’s proactive approach towards collaboration reflects a hopeful intention to enhance governance and effectively address the nation’s challenges.
