In the second 2024 Tri-Nations Friendly match today, Solomon Islands’ coach, Josh Smith, highlighted the team’s dedication to their distinct style of play as they prepare to face Hong Kong.

“We’re beginning to shape the team in line with how we want to play. Our focus will be on the aspects we need to develop and the objectives we want to achieve,” Smith stated.

This match follows a narrow 1-0 defeat to Fiji, decided by a penalty, which provided important insights into the team’s recent performance.

Smith commended the team’s efforts while recognizing areas that require improvement. “It was a valuable opportunity to observe the players in action. I appreciated the game’s spirit and the high intensity. We need to refine certain aspects, particularly in defense, our pressing, and our positioning behind the ball,” he remarked.

With optimism for the upcoming match against Hong Kong, Smith regards it as an essential learning opportunity for his squad. “We’ll see how things unfold against the Hong Kong team, and it will serve as a valuable experience for the players,” he noted.

Solomon Islands will take on Hong Kong today at 7 PM at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
