Mereani Solevu remains determined to secure her place on the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team for upcoming tournaments, despite not making the 13-member squad for the Dubai 7s this week. The athlete is focusing on enhancing her fitness as she prepares for future events in the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS World Series.
Hailing from Vatoa, Bau in Tailevu, Solevu was active at the recent Get Into Rugby (GIR) Plus Festival held at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva, where she expressed her commitment to continuous improvement. She highlighted her goal of undergoing rigorous fitness training leading up to the Oceania 7s.
Solevu has confidence in her teammates participating in the Dubai tournament and encourages them to give their all. She emphasized the importance of unity and resilience, acknowledging the challenging journey ahead. “The road is tough, but together we can make it easier,” she stated.
Although not part of the final roster, Solevu’s dedication to the sport shone through during her time at the GIR Plus Festival, where she motivated young rugby enthusiasts to focus on their development. She advised these aspiring players to commit to their training regimens, saying that a strong fitness foundation would ease their pathway to advanced levels of rugby in Fiji.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will be facing off against Ireland in their opening match at 5:44 PM on November 30.
This story reflects Solevu’s resilience and passion for rugby. Her focus on personal growth and team spirit serves as an inspiring example for both current and future players in the sport.
