The Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa recently took a significant step in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by donating $20,000 to Project Bula Mai, an initiative aimed at supporting important charitable causes. This donation was formally presented on December 2 at the resort.
The event was highlighted by a Style Fiji fashion show that showcased the creativity of nine local designers. The proceeds from this event, combined with the resort’s generous donation, will be directed to the Fiji Cancer Society, a charity that has benefitted from the partnership with Style Fiji for the past three years.
Vincent Macquet, the area general manager of Sofitel, emphasized the long-standing relationship between the resort and Style Fiji, praising their notable contributions over the years. He stated, “It’s only natural that we partner with grassroots organisations in Fiji to push the barriers to the next level.” This commitment includes not only providing logistical support for events but also significant financial contributions to impactful organizations.
Marlene Vuniwaqa, co-founder of Project Bula Mai, acknowledged the important role of Sofitel in securing sponsorships, particularly given the challenges of obtaining funding from other sources. She noted that while many sponsors contribute in-kind, Sofitel remains a standout for its financial support, ensuring that the funds go directly to help the Fiji Cancer Society.
This commendable initiative reflects a positive community spirit and highlights how businesses can make a meaningful impact in their local areas. By combining fashion, entertainment, and charitable giving, Project Bula Mai continues to foster a culture of support and engagement in Fiji.
As these efforts progress, it is hopeful that more organizations will follow in Sofitel’s footsteps to enrich the community and provide essential resources for those in need, showing that when local businesses invest in social good, everyone benefits.
