SODELPA’s Road to 2026: Will Internal Issues Propel or Hinder Their Success?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) to resolve its internal issues ahead of the 2026 General Election. This statement followed SODELPA’s Annual General Meeting, where Party Leader Aseri Radrodro declared that the party aims to secure an outright win in the upcoming elections without forming alliances with other political parties.

Rabuka suggested that SODELPA would fare better if it could address the issues that arose when he was ousted from leadership. In his response, Radrodro noted the party’s durability and expressed gratitude to its founders for their vision and efforts. He emphasized that the primary goal of any political party is to win elections and maintain majority governance.

Radrodro is set to present SODELPA’s strategies to the Management Board soon, demonstrating the party’s commitment to a proactive approach as it gears up for the elections. The political atmosphere is charged, with both SODELPA and Rabuka’s People’s Alliance Party eyeing majority control. The active engagement of both parties suggests that the upcoming elections could serve as a crucial turning point in Fiji’s political landscape.

This renewed dedication from SODELPA, highlighted by their recent AGM and leadership focus, suggests a revitalized effort to connect with the electorate and address pressing concerns. As both parties prepare for electoral challenges, there is a positive indication that voters may witness a dynamic political environment leading up to 2026, with potential for both parties to drive meaningful change in governance.
