The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has publicly reaffirmed its support for Viliame Gavoka in his role as Deputy Prime Minister, despite his recent departure as the party leader. General Secretary Viliame Takayawa stated that the appointment of government positions falls within the Prime Minister’s authority, as established by the Coalition Agreement.

Takayawa emphasized that it is only fair for Gavoka to retain the position he held during the 2022 national elections. He reasserted SODELPA’s commitment to maintaining a functional coalition that prioritizes fairness, transparency, and inclusivity, principles the party aims to uphold as they collaborate with other coalition partners.

The integrity of SODELPA’s internal governance is supported by its constitution, which clearly delineates the roles of both party and parliamentary leaders, ensuring equitable representation and effective governance. Takayawa reiterated the importance of collaboration to foster national unity while advocating for the rights and welfare of indigenous communities.

Reflecting on SODELPA’s significant role in the formation of the current government, Takayawa pointed out the party’s dedication to honoring the mandate given to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. As Fiji approaches the 2026 elections, SODELPA is rallying citizens to join their mission for progress, stability, and unity, promoting a vision for a prosperous future for all Fijians.

This ongoing support for Gavoka reflects SODELPA’s broader strategy of maintaining coalition stability, nurturing trust and cooperation among partners, and ensuring that every citizen feels included in the governance process. Taking a hopeful stance, SODELPA’s actions suggest a commitment to creating a more unified and progressive Fiji, emphasizing collaboration across diverse communities to build a better future for the nation.

Overall, SODELPA’s renewed support for Gavoka and the coalition underscores a shared vision for effective governance that prioritizes inclusivity and collective advancement, aiming to foster a resilient political environment in Fiji as it navigates upcoming challenges.
