SODELPA Rebuilds Under New Leadership Ahead of Fiji Elections

The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) is reaffirming its presence and commitment to growth as it embarks on a new phase of rebuilding and reconnection, according to Party Secretary Simione Rasova. Despite facing numerous challenges and shifts in the political climate, Rasova asserts that SODELPA remains “alive and thriving.”

The emergence of the People’s Alliance has spurred a significant transformation within SODELPA, prompting the party to renew its focus and strengthen its foundations. Rasova expressed optimism through a social media post, stating that rebuilding efforts are currently underway, which includes reconnecting with long-standing supporters from the SDL era, particularly those aligned with former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, whose legacy is honored as “Prisoner 302.”

SODELPA’s outreach initiatives are enhancing its engagement with communities, particularly in Fiji’s largest informal settlement that encompasses all fourteen provinces. This engagement serves to reaffirm SODELPA’s purpose and presence, reminding members and supporters of the party’s mission to benefit the people of Fiji.

Participation in the Coalition Government has been described as a pivotal step for SODELPA, showcasing its relevance and capability in the current political landscape. Rasova highlighted that since its formation in 2001, SODELPA has consistently worked towards realizing its vision, growing stronger even amidst challenges. He emphasized, “As we say it the SODELPA way — we keep building, they will come. SODELPA remains committed to its mission and to the people of Fiji, without malice.”

Recent developments surrounding SODELPA also reveal a strong sense of unity and renewed purpose among its members, especially following the party’s recent Annual General Meeting, which attracted substantial attendance and support. The leadership transition, with Ratu Filimoni Soqeta taking the helm as president alongside newly elected vice presidents, Ratu Ramesio Qarau and Ratu Epeli Tuisese, signals a proactive approach as the party gears up for the upcoming 2025 Municipal Elections and the 2026 National General Elections.

The transition in leadership is seen as a strategic move to foster youthful and visionary governance, aiming to resonate with the electorate’s aspirations and ensure that the party is prepared to engage effectively with current voter concerns. With a focus on rejuvenation and grassroots political participation, SODELPA is positioning itself as a significant player in shaping Fiji’s political future while emphasizing accountability and unity within its ranks. This proactive stance paints a hopeful picture for SODELPA, suggesting that the party has the potential to instigate meaningful changes in Fiji’s governance landscape.
