The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) has raised alarms regarding the escalating tensions between women on social media due to conflicts arising from relationships. During a live discussion on their social media platform, FWCC counsellor advocate Lavenia Tuitabu posed an important question about the origins of these confrontations and the resulting animosity between women.
Tuitabu noted that these conflicts often stem from a scenario where a woman discovers her partner is involved with another woman while still in a relationship. This dynamic often leads to both women clashing and expressing their grievances publicly online.
According to Ms. Tuitabu, women typically feel hurt but may defend their partners while directing their anger toward the other woman. She highlighted that during these confrontations, the male partner often remains unaffected and manipulates the situation to his advantage.
“The man involved remains indifferent to the trauma both women experience,” she stated, emphasizing that the root of the conflict usually lies with him. Tuitabu expressed concern over the painful reality that women often end up sharing hurtful images and comments about each other online, exacerbating the situation.
This situation calls attention to the need for support and understanding among women rather than hostility towards one another.
