Social Media She-Demons: Women at War Over Relationships

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has expressed its concern regarding the rising incidences of women engaging in confrontations and expressing animosity on social media. During a live session on the FWCC’s social media platform, counsellor advocate Lavenia Tuitabu posed a key question: who instigates the conflicts and emotional pain among women who oppose one another?

Tuitabu highlighted that these disputes often arise while both women are connected to the same partner, who may be involved with another woman. This leads to confrontations between the two women, who then publicly share their grievances on social media.

Tuitabu noted that, despite the emotional pain they endure, women often defend their partners while directing their anger at the other woman. She remarked, “We often witness how, amidst this drama, the women set aside their emotional ties to the man and resort to exchanging hurtful remarks.”

She also pointed out that the man at the center of the conflict remains unaffected and indifferent to the distress experienced by both women, suggesting he is manipulating both parties. “When disputes arise, we might consider who instigated this situation; it was the man,” she stated.

Tuitabu expressed concern about the painful consequences of these conflicts, which often result in women sharing damaging images of one another that attract negative comments.
