The misuse of social media platforms is raising alarms, according to Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports. He highlighted numerous instances where social media has been wielded as a tool for personal attacks and defamation.
“The digital landscape, while providing unmatched connectivity and opportunities for dialogue, has also turned into a battleground plagued by misinformation,” Mr. Saukuru noted. He emphasized that social media-driven defamation can lead to severe consequences for individuals.
“False allegations and malicious rumors can damage reputations, harm professional ties, and cause emotional pain,” he stated. He encouraged young people to leverage these platforms for fostering positive societal changes.
