Former Australian soccer player Luke Wilkshire is set to be the chief guest at the Fiji FA Awards Night, taking place on December 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi. Fiji Football Association Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Yusuf, expressed his enthusiasm over Wilkshire’s participation, highlighting it as a great honor to host a FIFA Legend at such a prestigious event.
Wilkshire’s remarkable international football career is anticipated to motivate Fiji’s football community. As part of his visit, he will attend the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and engage with young players at the Fiji Ba Academy. His involvement is expected to make a meaningful impression on both fans and aspiring athletes.
The Fiji FA Awards Night marks a significant return after a three-year break and will acknowledge the outstanding achievements within Fiji football by presenting 16 awards that celebrate players, teams, officials, and contributors.
Throughout his career, Wilkshire played for notable clubs including Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he claimed the A-League title in the 2017-2018 season. He earned 80 caps for the Socceroos, netting 8 goals, and had the privilege of representing Australia in two FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010), as part of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup-winning team, and during the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Following his retirement, Wilkshire transitioned into coaching and has remained a respected figure in Australian football, renowned for his passing ability, tactical awareness, and leadership skills.
