Former Australian soccer player Luke Wilkshire is set to be the chief guest at the Extra Supermarket Fiji Football Association Awards Night, scheduled for December 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi.

Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammed Yusuf expressed his enthusiasm about Wilkshire’s attendance, emphasizing that having a FIFA Legend present is a true honor. Wilkshire’s impressive international football career is expected to inspire Fiji’s football community, particularly young athletes.

During his visit, Wilkshire will also attend the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and pay a visit to the Fiji Ba Academy. His presence is anticipated to make a significant impact on football fans and aspiring players in the region.

The Fiji FA Awards Night, which returns after a three-year break, will honor the best in Fiji football with 16 awards recognizing outstanding players, teams, officials, and contributors.

Wilkshire’s illustrious career saw him play for clubs like Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he secured the A-League title in the 2017-2018 season. He earned 80 caps for the Socceroos, scoring eight goals, and represented Australia in two FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010), contributed to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup-winning team, and participated in the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Since retiring, Wilkshire has moved into coaching and continues to be a prominent figure in Australian football, recognized for his exceptional passing, tactical insight, and leadership qualities.

This event not only marks a celebration of football excellence in Fiji but also serves as an opportunity for aspiring footballers to engage with a seasoned professional, potentially sparking new passion and dedication within the sport.
