Former Socceroo Luke Wilkshire is set to be the chief guest at the Fiji FA Awards Night, which is scheduled for December 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi. The event marks the return of the awards night after a three-year break and aims to honor the best in Fijian football, with 16 awards acknowledging players, teams, officials, and contributors.
Fiji Football Association Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Yusuf, expressed his enthusiasm about having a “FIFA Legend” like Wilkshire present at the ceremony, highlighting the inspiration his career could provide to the local football community in Fiji. Wilkshire’s impressive international career includes playing for clubs such as Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he clinched the A-League title in 2017-2018. He earned 80 caps for the Australian national team, scoring eight goals and participating in two FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010), as well as the victorious 2015 AFC Asian Cup team and the 2004 Athens Olympics.
During his visit, Wilkshire will also attend the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and tour the Fiji Ba Academy. His involvement is expected to leave a meaningful impact on aspiring football players and enthusiasts in the region.
