Former Australian soccer player Luke Wilkshire will serve as the chief guest at the upcoming Extra Supermarket Fiji FA Awards Night, scheduled for December 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi. The Fiji Football Association’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Yusuf, expressed enthusiasm about Wilkshire’s involvement, stating that it is a privilege to feature a FIFA Legend at the ceremony.

Wilkshire’s impressive international career and contributions to Australian football are anticipated to motivate Fiji’s football community. During his time in Fiji, he is set to attend the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and visit the Fiji Ba Academy, which will benefit aspiring players and local football enthusiasts alike.

This year’s Fiji FA Awards Night marks a return after a three-year break and will honor the best in Fiji football, presenting 16 awards that acknowledge players, teams, officials, and contributors to the sport.

Throughout his career, Wilkshire played for notable clubs such as Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he celebrated an A-League title victory in the 2017-2018 season. He earned a total of 80 caps for the Socceroos, scoring 8 goals and participating in two FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010), the victorious AFC Asian Cup in 2015, and the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Since retiring, Wilkshire has successfully transitioned into coaching and remains a highly regarded figure in Australian football, known for his exceptional passing, tactical acumen, and leadership qualities.
