SMEs Shine as Champions of Resilience and Innovation in Fiji

Nine small and medium business leaders were celebrated at the 2023 FDB National Small and Medium Enterprise Awards for their resilience, innovation, and significant contributions to Fiji’s economic growth. The award-winning entrepreneurs hail from various sectors, including poultry farming, upcycling, forest park tours, and kava export.

Damend Gounder, chairperson of the Fiji Development Bank board, praised these businesses for their remarkable evolution during a time of rapid technological advancement paired with emerging challenges. He stated that they have not only made strides in growth but have also embraced greater inclusivity while moving towards more sustainable operations.

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the chief guest at the event, acknowledged the crucial role of SMEs in fostering economic well-being at the grassroots level. He highlighted the remarkable resilience and adaptability shown by national SMEs in the face of adversity, noting their commitment to innovation and digital transformation.

Debra Sadranu, the overall winner and founder of Essence Group Fiji Ltd—known for producing nama skincare products—expressed her gratitude for the recognition of their hard work and passion. She attributed the success to her team, particularly the women harvesters in Yasawa, and to the exceptional resources available in Fiji that are utilized in their product offerings.
