Suva Primary School (SPS) has recently demonstrated that success is not defined by size but by spirit and dedication. Despite having fewer players and limited training space compared to larger schools, SPS made history by clinching the Suva Kaji Rugby under-14 rugby title for the third consecutive year, a first for the school.

In a statement by the rugby coordinator, Maisese Niumataiwalu, she remarked, “This remarkable accomplishment not only highlights the talent within the school but also the dedication, resilience, and discipline of our young athletes.” The under-14 team’s victory was matched by the under-12 side, which also remained unbeaten for the third year.

Niumataiwalu pointed out the strength of SPS after they triumphed over notable opponents like Stella Maris, St. Agnes, and Gospel Primary School, showcasing a growing rugby prowess across multiple grades. Encouragingly, even the younger teams, under-10 and under-11, have recorded promising results and are continually improving.

She emphasized the significance of early development, declaring her commitment to nurturing these young athletes. “It is wonderful to see our youngest students pick up a ball and want to be part of the team. Early development is key,” she stated.

To celebrate these achievements, a Thanksgiving event was held, where parents and teachers participated in honoring the students. Niumataiwalu acknowledged the invaluable contributions of parents who possess a strong rugby background, emphasizing that despite the limited resources, the spirit and support of the community foster great accomplishments.

This success story not only highlights the talent blooming at Suva Primary School but also serves as an inspiration to other schools in the region, illustrating that determination and community support can lead to outstanding achievements, nurturing champions both on the field and in life.

Overall, the dedication shown by these young athletes at SPS hints at a hopeful future for rugby in the community, as these foundational experiences could shape them into remarkable players in the years to come.
