The Skipper Select team has commenced its preparations for an upcoming match against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua. The squad is currently training in Sigatoka, with today’s session taking place at the HPU Gym located at Lawaqa Park, as part of their buildup to the highly anticipated encounter.

Head coach Rupeni Nasiga emphasized that the match against the Fijian Drua will serve as a significant test ahead of the Skipper Cup. He noted that progress has been encouraging, with only a few minor injury concerns affecting players who participated in last week’s McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s.

With an aim to strengthen team combinations and enhance set pieces, Nasiga expressed optimism as players are beginning to solidify their roles within the squad. He highlighted the game as a positive opportunity for local players to exhibit their skills as they strive for selection to the Drua team, stating, “It’s a good development and a great chance for the local boys to showcase their talent and show what they can do to earn a spot in the Drua team.”

The Skipper Select team, also referred to as the Skipper XV, consists of standout players from the 2025 Skipper Cup provincial competition. They are set to compete against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in a pre-season match scheduled for the 6th of next month in Lautoka. Meanwhile, the Drua will face the Chiefs in their first pre-season clash next Friday at Mount Maunganui at 2pm.

This pre-season matchup is more than just a game; it represents a vital stepping stone for both teams as they prepare for the competitive season ahead, showcasing local talent and fostering development within the sport. Fans can look forward to an exciting display of rugby talent.
