The Skipper Select squad has been officially announced ahead of their eagerly awaited pre-season match against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua next year. This selection showcases some of the finest local talent from various provincial unions across Fiji, underscoring the robust domestic rugby system that the nation possesses.
Representatives from Nadroga, Naitasiri, Suva, Malolo, Ba, Macuata, and Tailevu have come together to form a truly national team prepared to challenge the Super Rugby Pacific side, the Drua.
In the forwards, loosehead props Aisake Atani and Nedley Grant from Nadroga will lead the pack, while the front row is solidified by hookers Seremaia Komailevuka from Naitasiri and Joeli Nainoca from Suva. Tighthead positions will be filled by Inoke Ravuiwasa and Josefa Nasaroa, both hailing from Suva. The locking contingent includes Michael Ferei of Naitasiri and Nadidi Taginiselala from Suva, while the dynamic loose forwards feature Isaia Lotawa of Ba and Marika Natau from Naitasiri on the flanks, alongside Ravuma Tuimacou of Macuata and Aminiasi Natuniyaga of Malolo at the number eight position.
In the scrumming department, halfbacks Napolioni Batimala from Naitasiri and Meli Buinimasi from Nadroga will play pivotal roles, with flyhalves Etonia Rokotuisawa of Naitasiri and Anare Tabakaucoro from Tailevu orchestrating the game. The midfield sees strong support from inside centres Apimeleki Nasalo of Lautoka and Joseva Tamata of Malolo, while Sevuloni Lutu from Suva and Esala Nalobo from Malolo provide solid options at outside centre.
The back three is equally formidable, featuring Iliesa Bete from Naitasiri and Onisimo Nawalu from Suva on the wings, complemented by Douglas Daveta from Malolo and Ponipate Tuberi of Suva at fullback. Additionally, the squad’s versatility is enhanced with utility backs Malikeli Matanisiga and Sakiusa Vosayaco from Nadroga, along with Ro Kaveni Seru of Naitasiri.
