In the latest development at Drasa Primary School in Lautoka, 60 students were officially inducted as school leaders on Wednesday in a ceremony that placed emphasis on service, teamwork and setting positive examples for younger pupils. The large cohort of new leaders will take on responsibilities across the school as they begin their term, school leaders said.
Headboy Rishav Prasad, a Year 8 pupil, told his peers the post carried more than a title. “As I take on this role, I am reminded of a quote that inspires me — a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. I will do my best to live by these words every day,” he said, pledging to lead by example. Prasad said he would “carry out my duties with honesty, discipline, and dedication,” and work to make the school “a place where everyone feels motivated, safe and proud to belong.”
Headgirl Raaisha Chand framed leadership as service rather than status. “Let us support our teachers, guide our juniors, and uphold the values of our school,” she said, urging fellow student leaders to demonstrate responsibility through action. “We must lead not only by words, but by our actions,” Chand added, calling on students to be role models and mentors for younger classmates.
Both Prasad and Chand used the induction to encourage collaboration, stressing that the success of the leadership team depends on teamwork and sustained commitment from all members. They asked their peers to back teachers and to work together to strengthen school culture, discipline and student morale.
The induction of 60 student leaders represents a broad leadership structure for Drasa Primary, signalling the school’s intent to distribute responsibility across year levels and functions. While specific duties for the newly inducted leaders were not detailed, the students’ public pledges highlighted core values the school expects its leadership to lift — honesty, discipline, dedication, service, and guidance of juniors.
Teachers and school administrators were present to witness the swearing-in, and parents of the newly appointed leaders were among those on hand to celebrate the occasion. The ceremony sets the tone for the leadership team’s term, with the headboy and headgirl’s emphasis on action and teamwork laying out clear expectations for how they intend to serve their school community.
