Six men have been charged with a total of 17 counts of rape and assault related to two alleged incidents involving a 14-year-old girl in 2020. They appeared at the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday.
According to police reports, all involved, including the victim and suspects, are from the same village. The first suspect, a 22-year-old man, faces seven counts of rape, while another 22-year-old man is charged with eight counts of rape. A 24-year-old man has been charged with one count of rape.
Additionally, a 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old man are jointly charged with one count of rape. In a separate case, the 29-year-old man is also jointly charged with a 24-year-old suspect for the offense of assault causing actual bodily harm.
All suspects were remanded by the Nausori Magistrates Court. Their case has since been transferred to the High Court in Suva and is scheduled to be heard again on October 1, 2024.
