On Christmas Day, law enforcement apprehended six individuals in connection with drug-related offenses. A 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was discovered in possession of seven sachets containing dried leaves, which are suspected to be marijuana. Another arrest involved a 24-year-old man from Qauia in Lami, who had a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana as well.
In Valelevu, police detained two men, aged 44 and 40, both from Vusuya, Nausori, after they were found with two zip-lock bags containing a crystal-like substance presumed to be methamphetamine. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was arrested for having 20 sachets of dried leaves that are also suspected to be marijuana. Lastly, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka in Lautoka was taken into custody after being found with five sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that the police will maintain a strong presence in community areas and picnic spots for drug checks, particularly during holiday periods. All six suspects are currently in police custody as investigations proceed and drug analysis is conducted.
