Leeds Rhinos have officially announced the signing of Fijian winger Maika Sivo from the Australian club Parramatta Eels on a three-year contract. The 31-year-old is currently representing Fiji in the Pacific Championships and has been a standout player for Parramatta since joining in 2019, where he has scored over 100 tries in the NRL.
Sivo’s transfer to Headingley marks a reunion with Leeds coach Brad Arthur, who previously managed Sivo at Parramatta for a decade. This move adds to Leeds’ growing roster, making Sivo the fourth new player to join the team since the conclusion of the 2024 Super League season. The other new signings include Samoa’s Keenan Palasia, Australian second-rower Cooper Jenkins, and full-back Jake Connor from Huddersfield Giants.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Sivo said, “Brad is a big part of who and where I am today. When he flicked me the message to ask if I wanted to come to Leeds, I said ‘I’m coming’.” He acknowledged that relocating to the other side of the world was a significant decision for him and his partner, but they are both excited about the new challenges that lie ahead.
This signing not only strengthens Leeds Rhinos’ squad but also highlights the team’s commitment to building a competitive lineup for the upcoming seasons. Sivo’s arrival could energize the team’s offensive options, making for an exciting future in the Super League.
This move reflects the growing international appeal of rugby and the willingness of players to embrace new challenges abroad, indicating a vibrant and dynamic future for the sport.
