The Railumu sisters, Setaita and Salaseini, are on the brink of fulfilling a lifelong aspiration by playing together for the Vodafone Fijiana XV team. Setaita, the elder sister, has been a steadfast member of the national side since 2022 and has also represented the Fijiana Drua team. Meanwhile, Salaseini is set to make her debut for the national squad, marking a pivotal moment in their rugby journeys.
For the Railumu family, witnessing both sisters don the Fijian jersey on an international platform is a dream realized. Setaita, filled with emotion, expressed immense pride in her sister’s dedication and hard work in the sport. She is ecstatic to share the field with Salaseini and to represent Fiji together.
“When I heard the manager announce the names, and then my sister’s name, I started bawling my eyes out,” Setaita shared with Fiji Rugby media. “I am so happy to be flying the Fijian flag with my sister. It’s a dream come true for our parents who have always supported us since we began playing rugby.”
The sisters have previously played rugby together, winning the Women’s Skipper Cup for Tailevu in 2019. Salaseini reflected on their shared journey, stating, “We both played rugby together in 2019 and won the Women’s Skipper Cup for Tailevu. Then we joined the extended national squad in 2021, but Setaita made it to the national team and the Fijiana Drua. Now, I’m excited to join her.”
Both sisters are eagerly looking forward to their first test match in Scotland, scheduled for Sunday, September 15, with kickoff set for 3:45 AM Fijian time at the Hive Stadium.
