Two sisters, Adi Nunia Talatok and Makelesi Tikomainavualiku Kautoga, proudly celebrated their achievement on Wednesday as they received their Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine from Fiji National University. The graduation ceremony, held at the Fiji Vodafone Arena, represented a significant milestone not just for the sisters, but also for their family.

The sisters attributed their success to their parents’ sacrifices and divine guidance. Adi Nunia, the elder sibling, studied for her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in China, while Makelesi completed her MBBS at FNU in 2015. Reflecting on their educational journey, Makelesi noted, “It hasn’t been easy juggling work and studies, but we’re thankful to God for being the source of wisdom and knowledge throughout this journey.”

They are the first members of their extended family to achieve such qualifications, and Makelesi expressed hope that their success might inspire others to pursue new opportunities in various fields. Now both sisters are practicing at Aspen Medical in Lautoka, showing a strong commitment to patient care. “You have to be knowledgeable and compassionate to provide quality care daily,” Makelesi emphasized.

For Adi Nunia, her son serves as her primary inspiration. She shared that witnessing her parents’ struggles for the sake of her and her siblings fuels her desire to be a role model, particularly for her son. “He’s my reason to push myself to the next level and set a benchmark for him to strive ahead,” she remarked.

The sisters acknowledged the mentorship they received from senior healthcare professionals and stressed the importance of perseverance. “While the course was challenging and time-consuming, anything is possible if you put your mind to it—especially when God is at the center of it all,” they affirmed.

This story showcases not only the sisters’ hard work and dedication but also the broader theme of familial support, community inspiration, and the pursuit of knowledge. Their success stands as a beacon of hope and an example to others that with determination and faith, achieving one’s dreams is possible.
