Two sisters, Adi Nunia Talatoka and Makelesi Tikomainavualiku Kautoga, celebrated a notable accomplishment on Wednesday by receiving their Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine from Fiji National University. The graduation ceremony was held at the Fiji Vodafone Arena, symbolizing a significant achievement for their family.

The sisters expressed their gratitude for their parents’ sacrifices and the guidance of their faith throughout their academic journey. Adi Nunia, the elder sister, completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in China, while Makelesi earned her MBBS degree at FNU in 2015. Reflecting on the challenges they faced, Makelesi noted, “It hasn’t been easy juggling work and studies, but we’re thankful to God for being the source of wisdom and knowledge throughout this journey.”

As the first in their extended family to attain such qualifications, they hope to inspire others to pursue education in various fields. Both sisters currently practice at Aspen Medical in Lautoka, where they are devoted to providing high-quality patient care. “You have to be knowledgeable and compassionate to provide quality care daily,” Makelesi emphasized.

Adi Nunia draws inspiration from her son and the struggles her parents overcame for their family’s education. “He’s my reason to push myself to the next level and set a benchmark for him to strive ahead,” she remarked. The sisters also acknowledged the support of senior healthcare professionals and underscored the importance of perseverance in overcoming educational challenges. “While the course was challenging and time-consuming, anything is possible if you put your mind to it—especially when God is at the center of it all,” they affirmed.

This success story highlights the power of determination and the impact that supportive family and mentors can have on personal growth. The sisters’ journey serves as an encouragement to others to pursue their educational aspirations, reminding us that with resilience and faith, achievements are within reach.

In summary, Adi Nunia and Makelesi’s graduation not only marks a personal milestone but also stands as a beacon of hope for their community, encouraging more individuals to pursue their dreams amidst challenges.
