Sireli Maqala, a utility back for the Flying Fijians, continues to impress in the French Top 14 league while playing for Bayonne. In a recent match, he scored his 10th try of the season, contributing to Bayonne’s convincing 33-12 victory over Castres. This outstanding performance has kept Maqala at the top of the try-scoring leaderboard after 13 matches.

During the game, Maqala showcased his agility, catching a deflected pass and sprinting 60 meters to score without any defenders in his path. His notable efforts were complemented by fellow Flying Fijians player Luke Tagi, who entered the match during the second half. For Castres, Vilimoni Botitu played in the center position, and veteran Leone Nakarawa was included in the match-day squad.

In other matches on the same day, Pau secured a victory against RC Vannes with a score of 48-24, while Montpellier narrowly defeated Clermont with a scoreline of 22-18.

This performance not only highlights Maqala’s talent but also showcases the growing impact of Fijian players in international rugby. Their continued success in prominent leagues like the Top 14 bodes well for the future of Fijian rugby on the world stage. As these players gain more exposure and experience, they contribute to elevating the status and recognition of Fijian rugby excellence globally.
