Sireli Maqala, the talented centre for the Flying Fijians team, is making headlines in the French Top 14 league as he currently leads the Top Try Scorers chart. The 2021 Olympic gold medalist has impressively scored nine tries in just twelve matches, showcasing his exceptional skill on the field.

Maqala’s performances have put him ahead of Lyon’s scrum-half Baptiste Couilloud, who has registered eight tries this season. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as Maqala is the only Fijian player to be featured in the top ten scorers list.

In terms of team rankings, Maqala’s club, Bayonne, is currently sitting in fourth place with a total of 34 points. The league is highly competitive, with Bordeaux leading the standings at 41 points, followed closely by Toulouse, also at 41 points but with a lower points difference. Toulon is in third place with 37 points.

Maqala’s success not only highlights his individual talent but also brings attention to the growing influence of Fijian players in international rugby. His outstanding performances could serve as an inspiration for young athletes in Fiji and contribute to the country’s rugby legacy.

Additionally, with the league still ongoing, there remains potential for Bayonne to climb the rankings, and for Maqala to further increase his try tally. This season could still yield exciting developments for both the player and his club.
