The Sinukakala women’s sevens rugby team will participate in the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira 7s tournament, using the event as an opportunity for player development and competitive experience. Manageress Esther Koronavatu shared these insights during an interview, emphasizing the team’s transition from the fifteens format to the sevens game, with many players coming from the Nasinu women’s provincial XV team.

Despite facing challenges such as a reduced training turnout due to holiday preparations, Koronavatu remains optimistic about the team’s potential. She highlighted their successful track record in the under 20 Fiji Sports Council 7s series, where they finished strongly against established teams like the Seahawks.

The team’s roster is primarily composed of young, dedicated players around the age of 20 who are already competing at a senior level. They train regularly at Albert Park and participate in gym sessions twice a week. With the aspiration to reach the finals and ultimately secure victory in the women’s category, the team is working diligently, aware of the stiff competition they will face.

Koronavatu also noted the presence of experienced players, including those representing the national team, which she believes will be instrumental during the tournament. The addition of sports science students from Fiji National University has further strengthened the squad, bringing fresh perspectives to their training regimen.

The Sinukakala women’s sevens team is not only looking to perform well but also to grow as individual players and as a cohesive unit. As they head into the tournament, there is a sense of hope and anticipation surrounding their upcoming matches, showcasing the resilience and determination of younger athletes striving for success in rugby.

In summary, the Sinukakala team is leveraging the upcoming tournament for valuable match experience, focusing on growth and teamwork, despite challenges and competitive pressures. Their enthusiastic approach to the sport is inspiring for both players and fans alike, promising an exciting display of rugby.
