The Agriculture and Waterways Ministry has reached an important milestone by signing a second Grant Agreement with the Drainage Boards, which marks a continuation of their productive partnership and acknowledges the positive outcomes achieved thus far.
During the signing event, Permanent Secretary Dr. Andrew Tukana emphasized the need for the drainage boards to utilize the funds responsibly for their planned projects. This is essential for advancing the broader objectives of both the government and the ministry.
Marau Vuli, the Director of Waterways, underlined the significance of developing sustainable solutions while ensuring public confidence in effective drainage systems and flood mitigation strategies. He noted the favorable public feedback received, indicating that the partnership has successfully enhanced drainage infrastructure, improved flood control measures, and bolstered community support.
Vinod Kumar, the Chairman of the Western Division Drainage Board, expressed gratitude for the grant and indicated that the upcoming festive season will be a period of heightened activity, particularly focused on the repairs and maintenance of essential infrastructure like flood gates and flap gates in the Western region.
This strategic grant not only aims to strengthen the drainage capacity but also serves as a testament to the ongoing commitment to community safety and well-being, especially during challenging weather conditions. It is encouraging to see such collaborative efforts in the pursuit of sustainable development, promising a brighter future for the communities involved.
