Retired school principal Kuber Singh expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have received free cataract surgery last year and encouraged fellow Fijians to prioritize regular eye check-ups, highlighting the importance of vision in daily life.
Mr. Singh, accompanied by his wife Kusum Lata Singh, visited the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva. His wife recently underwent eye surgery conducted by the Chinese medical team from Guangdong Bright Journey, which performed surgeries on 30 patients that day.
Reflecting on his own experience, Mr. Singh shared, “I had my cataract operation last year with this Chinese group, and now it’s my wife’s turn.” He mentioned that thanks to the surgery, he has regained perfect vision and no longer needs glasses for reading or watching TV. He expressed deep appreciation for the support from the Chinese medical professionals, stating, “They are helping Fijians with their talent and skills.”
Kusum Singh shared her struggle with vision problems for three years, which added stress to her daily life. “I couldn’t see with my right eye,” she mentioned, recalling how her blurry vision led her to seek help at the eye clinic, where she learned she had a cataract. After registering for surgery in 2022, she finally received treatment, saying, “It will make work easier for me now at home, especially with my grandkids.”
The Guangdong Bright Journey medical team is currently on a mission across Pacific Island nations, providing free clinics and surgeries to over 100 patients, demonstrating a commendable commitment to community health and well-being.
This story underscores the vital role regular medical check-ups play in preserving health, particularly regarding eye care. It also reflects the positive impact of international medical collaborations, bringing essential services to those in need. The experiences of Mr. and Mrs. Singh serve as an inspiring reminder of the importance of timely medical intervention and the hope that it can restore not only vision but also quality of life.
