Jeral Sharma, a businessman from Sigatoka, emerged victorious at the inaugural Sigatoka Electric Cooperate Golf amateur tournament held at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course over the weekend. With a score of 76, Sharma triumphed in a tense play-off against Ba school teacher Asish Chand.
Sharma commented on the challenging conditions of the game, stating, “It was a great outing but a bit tough out there, but I had to stick to the game.” In the overall net division, Sumith Perera claimed first place with a score of 67, while veteran golfer Susie Yee secured the ladies’ overall net title.
In the professional category, Taitusi Tuivuci demonstrated impressive skill, finishing with a par 72 to take the championship title. Fiji Order of Merit frontrunner Tomasi Tuivuna followed closely behind, finishing two strokes later with a score of 74. Tuivuna expressed his feelings about the outcome, saying, “It was hard luck I guess, but that’s what it is in the green on game day.”
Golf course manager Avinesh Datt praised the event, noting that favorable weather contributed to a strong turnout. “I thank the players for committing to the last tournament of the year,” he remarked. Meanwhile, Vijay Narayan, managing director of Sigatoka Electric Ltd, expressed satisfaction with the event’s participation and hinted at plans for a larger and even more engaging tournament next year.
