Sigatoka’s Aflame Brothers chase Wairiki 7s glory in Taveuni

After an exhilarating victory at the Yalovata Lomaiviti 7s tournament, where the Axellerate Aflame Brothers rugby team from Sigatoka triumphed over Bureta with a score of 17-12, the team is now setting its sights on the upcoming Wairiki 7s tournament, slated for next week in Taveuni.

Captain Apisai Naruma praised the relentless effort and commitment demonstrated by his teammates, acknowledging that securing a place in the final and ultimately winning posed significant challenges. “The boys have put in their hard work. Coming to this tournament, we knew it wasn’t an easy task to reach the final and get the win, but I would like to thank the boys for their dedication throughout the tournament,” Naruma stated.

Looking ahead, Naruma emphasized the team’s ambition to achieve another victory before the year concludes, viewing it as a crucial accomplishment, not only for the team’s pride but also as a cherished Christmas gift. “Our focus now will shift to Taveuni. Getting another win before the year ends will be a big achievement and also a great Christmas gift for the team,” he expressed.

Reflecting on their recent performance, Naruma acknowledged that there were moments of sluggishness during the tournament. He indicated that the team would analyze their past games to address these lapses in performance. “We will go back and look at our mistakes. We were slow a bit in a few of our games, so we will be looking to work on it before heading to Taveuni,” he noted.

As preparations are underway for the Wairiki 7s, scheduled for December 11-13, the Axellerate Aflame Brothers are eager to carry their momentum forward and make a strong statement as they aim for continued success in the rugby season. With a clear focus and determination, the team is hopeful for a strong finish to the year.
